GRAN CANARIA CORE SITE

The RAEGE Station of Gran Canaria will be located in the town of Temisas, in the eastern part of the island. This location, at 875 m altitude, was chosen after a long campaign of interference measurements. The station will have as its main infrastructure a VGOS radio telescope equipped with a 2 to 14 GHz  broadband receiver. In addition, it will also have a GNSS station, a weather station, an atomic clock and a gravimetry pavilion to house both gravity monitoring equipment and seismographs.

The installation of the station will be a great achievement, not only for the RAEGE project, but also for the VGOS global network, since it will be the third on the African tectonic plate along with Santa Maria and South Africa, thus fulfilling the objective of 3 stations per plaque that provides for the global network. The site is currently in project phase and the first works are expected to begin during 2024.
